The Nest // DIY Corner Bench

Happy March friends! Can you believe it? 2014 is flying by before my eyes. Hopefully that means warm weather is on the way too. However, I did score a snow day today so I'm not complaining too loudly.
As you know we are in our house and ever so slowly it's coming together. I shared my office space back here. This weekend we built a bench! In our apartment we had this amazing dark wood World Market table that wasn't going to fit into our tiny little breakfast nook eating area in the house. We sold the table on Craigslist and in exchange I purchased the smaller round table and those two shell chairs. Final cost of both the table and chairs $100. Not too shabby!

In order to maximize our space and seating we had to get creative. I say "we" like my husband has creative thoughts or something. Ha! He has many good qualities but creativity isn't really one of them. But he has tools - a lot of glorious handyman tools! I created the idea and boom he went to work. I'm not sure which DIY or interior design blog I read the quote "my husband makes it and I make it pretty" but that pretty much sums up my life.

Here was the small little ity bitty space before:
Not very pretty and most certainly not very big! I should have taken more "in progress" pictures along the way but I didn't for some reason. I did snap two that kind of show you how it starts to come together.
And here it is! The final product. Well, almost final. As you can see I still have nothing on the window or walls behind the bench but we'll get there. Progress is being made! As a GSD kinda girl, progress is my best friend.
